Five Point Guide on how to compose music for a film.
- Engage with the film you're making sound for.
Start by watching the film once, to discover the story, then watch it again, so you start seeing the different things and elements that you'll need, get into the rhythm of the film and relax. - Watch the clip back without sound.
Do this by watching back the clip without sound and think about how you're imagining the atmosphere and setting for each scene and then think about the props you'll need to create it. - Know what the Director wants.Listen to what the director is saying when talking about the music. 9/10 the movie director does not know much about the music that you'll need in terms of how to set the mood for the scene. Such as the director talking about how they need a tense moment in the music sense when a slasher is creeping up on someone mysteriously or how the music needs to be light and cheerful when the scenes happy.
- Stick to the story.
As you're watching the clip in silence to keep the imagination going remember you need to stick to the story line fully so there's the right pace of sound for people to understand as well not just yourself. - Be original.it can get frustrating when a director limits you, just like any project where creative minds have to learn to work together. There are hundreds of tracks available for use for a one-time fee. Make sure your music reminds the director why they've opted for working with a live performer instead of paying for pre made sounds.
Describe how Hans Zimmer and Christopher Nolan worked together to create the music for the Dark Knight?
The main thing about them working together shown in the video above was working to create the horror ambience for The Joker. Nolan had been sending Zimmer still aimages of horror themed clowns to boost his with inspiration over the time period they both talked about the tension that was needed and both realised what they wanted to create the feel of The Joker lurking in the shadows.

-lots of strong tension.
-minimalism in The Jokers theme.-lots of strong tension.
-punk and rock influences in The Jokers look and feel.
How do you feel about the final score and explain why you feel it works/doesn’t work.I think that overall the final score in which was given worked very well because it gave of they great sense of mystery that they intended to give us as an audience and the power of The Jokers character because it's not a tone which is of cheery detail it full on deep and dark, so it portrays the characteristics really well.
